2016 Festival

Gwanwyn is 10 this year and we would like to celebrate!
Highlights include:

Birthday parties across Wales

We couldn’t have a birthday without having a party so in partnership with Creu Cymru and their Hynt scheme, we’re organising birthday parties at theatre venues across Wales to celebrate this important milestone.

These parties will provide an opportunity for people to try new arts and creative activity, either in workshops or taster sessions and to enjoy a wide variety of performances and master classes.

Wales Millennium Centre, Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Galeri, RCT Theatres, Theatr Brycheiniog and many more will be opening their doors for these special celebrations!

Re-Live’s National tour of Belonging

Inspiring and moving, Belonging is a powerful new play that follows the lives of two families as they discover that love and laughter don’t have to stop because of dementia.

The bilingual play BelongingThis bilingual production is based on Re-Live’s in-depth interviews with people living with dementia, family members and professional carers. Belonging dispels the myths of dementia and shines a light on how a dementia-friendly Wales can be created just by being yourself, being in the moment…belonging.

Ei SHED fod

Building on the success of Pimp My Uke last year, Gwanwyn and Men’s Sheds Cymru are working together to create a brand new event, the Ei SHED fod; if Men’s Sheds did Eisteddfods!

Shedders from across Wales will join together for musical workshops and performances including a handmade Appalachian Mountain Dulcimer from the Squirrel’s Nest in Bridgend.

Community events in your area

Gwanwyn is working in partnership with over 50 community organisations to deliver hundreds of events in your local area. This year’s programme ranges from patchwork in Treherbert, sculpture workshops in Llandrindod Wells, solar powered mobile movie theatre in the Gower. There’s photography in Carmarthen, ceramics in Denbigh, bookbinding in Cardigan, ‘Sax for fun’ workshops in Penarth and Cardiff– and that’s just for starters.
