So far the work that I have developed has been about creating and finding content for the wallpaper, informing staff, patients and their families of the work that I’m undertaking and calling for contributions to the work.
I have identified 17 possible areas where the wallpaper can be placed, which is quite daunting as that is a lot of content to find! However, it is also very exciting as the project should build up over time with new contributions from the public. One of the main contributors will be Rhondda Digital Archive – developed from the Library Service. Rhondda Cynon Taff have a fantastic online archive of images from the local area over the previous hundred years to draw from, although we will be focussing primarily on the past 50 years – in living memory of the majority of patients.
I have also been recruiting local photographers to donate images for the gallery, so far Gerwyn and Karen Gibbs are on board and I hope to include Aberdare Camera Club and any other Camera Clubs based in the Rhondda. I’m meeting with fantastic Rhondda artist Elwyn Thomas throught the Giles Gallery in the next couple of weeks to see if we can include some of his work as well, as his paintings are so iconic of the valleys.
